It’s a special treat to announce that Simple & Crisp has been awarded its second Local Producer Loan, this time for $50,000.
I’ve worked with Founder and Chief Pairing Purveyor Jane Yuan since the idea stage of Simple & Crisp’s development, and it’s magical to be part of the company’s evolution. I’m in awe that she grew Simple & Crisp out of her kitchen into a healthy, sustainable product line with national distribution in less than three years.
With this latest loan, Simple & Crisp will purchase a slicing machine and a new packaging line to improve production efficiency and capacity. The company’s first Local Producer Loan of $37,000 was awarded in 2014 to grow its operations.
If you’re not familiar with Simple & Crisp, here’s what you’re missing: artisanal fruit crackers, made with 100 percent fruit, that are thinly sliced and simply dried. The crackers started as something Jane served as a unique way to pair cheese, cocktails, and desserts while entertaining. They were a hit at her dinner parties, and before long, Simple & Crisp was born.
We presented Jane with the check for her loan this past Saturday at Whole Foods Market Interbay, during the store’s Meet the Makers event. Julie O’Brien from Firefly Kitchens and Clark Bowen from CB’s Nuts were on hand to help celebrate.
“I’m honored to have the entire Whole Foods Market team in my corner,” Jane said. “As we grow, Simple & Crisp is committed to staying natural and Non-GMO Project verified.”
Pick up a package of Simple & Crisp at any of the Pacific Northwest Whole Foods Market stores—you’ll love them!
